Nearby building fire causes major disruption to high level services at Glasgow Central
󱒃
Zeitraum:Fr., 20. März–Mi., 25. März
Betreiber:Avanti West Coast,Caledonian Sleeper,CrossCountry,TransPennine Express,ScotRail
Zugehörige Informationen:A fire at a building near Glasgow Central station meant that the decision was made to close the station. Glasgow Central's upper-level station has now partially reopened, with platforms 7 through 15 being brought back into use. Train service (operated by ScotRail) to the lower-level platforms at Glasgow Central is continuing to operate normally. After thorough inspections to ensure passenger safety, the station is now expected to reopen at full capacity from the start of service on Wednesday, March 25. A small exclusion zone will remain in place on the upper-level concourse while Glasgow City Council continues its work on the affected building. The Gordon Street and Union Street entrances will also remain closed. Major disruption is expected until the end of today, Tuesday, March 24. A visual disruption map video is available. Network Rail has published a detailed update regarding Glasgow Central on their website. Avanti West Coast customer advice: A reduced Avanti West Coast service will run to and from Glasgow Central. You are advised to check your entire journey before you travel. An amended service will also continue to operate to Preston, Carlisle, and Motherwell, enabling customers to connect with trains to Edinburgh, and local services to the Glasgow area. You can use your ticket on the following train companies at no extra cost in both directions: CrossCountry between Edinburgh and Birmingham New Street ScotRail between Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street, and also between Anderston / Glasgow Central (lower-level) / Argyle Street and Motherwell TransPennine Express between Edinburgh and Preston Caledonian Sleeper customer advice: Caledonian Sleeper services are able to run as scheduled to/from Glasgow Central following the partial reopening of the station. Please note, restrictions remain in place as Network Rail and the local council work to restore the station to full capacity. Accessing and exiting the station: There are two entrances in operation that you can use to access or exit the station. These are the entrances on Argyle Street / Hope Street which have access to the station elevator and escalators, and the Carriageway Road entrance which provides direct access to the main station concourse. Station facilities: All station facilities including shops, restrooms, the guest lounge, and waiting areas are currently unavailable. Boarding for Caledonian Sleeper services begins at 10:00 PM, so it is recommended that you arrive shortly after this time to help make your journey as smooth as possible. Passenger Assistance: If you require additional help, the Passenger Assistance team will be on hand to support you. This may be prebooked by contacting Caledonian Sleeper using the live chat function on their website. Onward travel from Glasgow: As Glasgow Central remains partially closed, onward train services from the station are currently limited and many services have been canceled. If you are planning to travel onwards, it is recommended that you check your journey and make arrangements in advance, where possible. Taxis are available on Hope Street, and station staff will be available to help guide you. CrossCountry customer advice: No trains will run to or from Glasgow Central. Services will be revised to run to or from Edinburgh instead. To travel between Glasgow and Edinburgh, your ticket can be used at no extra cost on ScotRail services (in either direction) between: Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street Argyle Street and Motherwell Once you have arrived at Edinburgh, you may then travel on the next available CrossCountry service south from Edinburgh. If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost. Unfortunately, any seat reservations will not be carried over to another train, but train cars B, H, and L are unreserved cars on CrossCountry services (where available) so please head to them. ScotRail customer advice: ScotRail services can call at Glasgow Central lower-level.
